Make a Wi-Fi QR code
A Wi-Fi code means guests never have to type your password.
Make the code
- Open the Wi-Fi tab. It is in the generator.
- Enter the network name. Type it exactly as it appears on your phone, including capital letters, in Network name (SSID).
- Choose the security. Pick WPA / WPA2 for most home and office networks, WEP for old equipment, or None for an open network.
- Type the password. The Password field is hidden when you choose None.
- Tick Hidden network if you need to. Do this only if your network does not show up in the list of available networks.
- Download and test. Save the code as PNG or SVG, and scan it with a phone.
Good to know
- Special characters such as
;,:and\in the name or password are handled for you. - The password is stored inside the QR code, so anyone who can scan it can join. Print it where you are happy for people to use the network.
- A guest network with its own password is a safer choice for a code you leave on display.
If a phone scans the code but does not connect, see A Wi-Fi QR code does not connect.
