Leave a margin around it
The downloaded code has no empty border of its own. Scanners need a clear margin around the code, about the width of four of its small squares, to find its edges. When you place it in a design:
- Put it on a plain background with space all round it.
- Do not let text, pictures or a frame touch the edge of the code.
