A Wi-Fi QR code does not connect

The phone recognizes the code but joining fails, or it never offers to join.

Check these in order

  1. Check the network name. It must match exactly, including capital letters and spaces. Compare it with the name shown on a phone that is already connected.
  2. Check the security type. Choose the one your router uses. WPA / WPA2 suits most networks. If you pick the wrong one, the phone cannot join.
  3. Check the password. Retype it in the generator and read it twice. One wrong character is enough to fail.
  4. Hidden network. Tick Hidden network if your network does not appear in the phone’s Wi-Fi list. Leave it off if it does appear.
  5. Pick the right network. Many routers have two networks, for example one for 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz, with different names. Use the name of the one you want guests to join.
  6. Try another phone. Some older phones and some tablets do not read Wi-Fi codes, even though they can scan links.

Still not working?

If a phone joins when you type the password by hand but not from the code, the code was made with a different name, security type or password. Make a new one and compare each field. See Make a Wi-Fi QR code.
