Create your first invoice
Before you start, it helps to have a client saved. See Add and manage clients.
- Start a new invoice. Click Invoices in the menu, then New Invoice.
- Choose the client. Under Bill to, pick a client. If you have none yet, add one first.
- Set the dates. Fill in the Issue date and the Due date.
- Add line items. Click Add line item and enter a description, quantity and price for each. You can add a discount, and choose a Tax preset.
- Set the status. Leave it as Draft while you work. Change it to Unpaid when it is ready to send.
- Save. The invoice gets its number the first time you save it. See Number your invoices and quotes.
Send it to your client
- Print or save as PDF. Open the invoice and use the print view. In the print window, choose Save as PDF to get a file you can attach to your own email.
- Share a payment link. On an unpaid invoice, click Copy payment link and send the link, so your client can pay online. See Let clients pay with eSewa.
Good to know
- An invoice moves to Paid by itself when recorded payments cover the total. You cannot set it by hand. See Record a payment.
- Overdue is not a status you set. An unpaid invoice shows as overdue once its due date has passed in your business’s timezone.
- Once an invoice is paid or has payments, its amounts can no longer be changed. See I can’t edit a paid invoice.
