Prepare photos for a website

Phone and camera photos are far bigger than a web page needs. This tutorial shrinks a batch of photos for a website in two steps.

Shrink the batch

  1. Resize the batch. Open Resize, choose Longest side under Resize by, and enter a size such as 1600. This handles portrait and landscape photos alike. Add your photos and download the results as a ZIP, then unzip it. See Resize images.
  2. Convert to WebP. Open Convert, choose JPG to WebP, and add the resized photos. WebP stores a photo in less space than a JPG at similar quality. See Convert images between formats.
  3. Download the result. Click Download all (ZIP) and upload the files to your site.

Check the result

  • Open a few of the final images at full size and look at faces and text.
  • Keep your original photos somewhere safe. The processed files have less detail and no location data.
  • Keep a JPG copy for email attachments and print shops, since some older programs cannot open WebP.
Note

Need several sizes of each photo, such as a thumbnail and a banner? Use Make several sizes from one image and give each row its own format.
